WHEAL MARTYN TO HOST LINDA JONES EXHIBITION
The China Clay Country Park, Wheal Martyn, is hosting an exhibition of paintings by local St Austell based artist Linda Mary Jones over September.
Linda’s paintings show a varied approach to image making. In recent work she employs a subtle palette with layers of soft colour while other paintings show brighter, bold colours and clear definition of form. The common thread is the human interest that lies at the heart of her work.
Linda said: “The inspiration for my recent paintings comes mainly from the local environment, which I then translate into paint as a direct response to what I’ve seen that’s intriguing or exciting. Many of the paintings are what I would call the ‘occupied landscape’ – occupied by a human presence.”
Linda aims to create images which appear as sensual rather than literal, that take us from the familiar to the strange. A concurrent theme brings the figure into a more enclosed space. Very much involved with family, many of her paintings reflect this interest in people and those close to her.
Roger Preston, Chair of the Trustee at Wheal Martyn, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Linda to Wheal Martyn and I’m sure her paintings will appeal to both visitors and local people.”
The exhibition of Linda’s work will run the end of September and entrance is free.
At the moment Wheal Martyn is also offering free entry for children under-16 years. The Museum is open every day from 10 to 5pm.
