China Clay Country Park - Nature Trail

The nature trail on the Park provides a range of habitats, some natural and some man-made to disguise the signs of clay extraction. Numerous species of birds, insects, trees and flowers can be seen making this changing landscape their home. All you have to do is take a stroll through the park to see the sheer variety of wildlife present.

Many of the trees and plants are ‘natives’ but others are introduced varieties that have escaped from cultivation, such as the now 'wild' or naturalised Rhododendron Ponticum. As you walk through the park look out for the tips covered by Rhododendron and the older more established woodland also planted to disguise a tip.

The viewing platform, again, provides a commanding view of an area of outstanding rural beauty as well as industry. It may surprise you what can be seen on the journey up to the view platform.

The trail runs for one and a quarter miles through hilly and sometimes uneven terrain and at present is therefore unsuitable for wheelchairs - but we are busy investigating ways to make it accessible to all.
